Ever wanted ringtones for your cell phone that don't sound like songs? Ever wanted them right now? Because you can get them now. I've just made a page for some tones that I've created.

Make your ring a ping pong rally, or morse code, or a typewriter. They're all free. And more are added regularly, because they're really easy to make.

Mostly Blue Skies Above Us

A certain number of years ago I was real serious about collecting records. Many of these records had small pressings, and are these days largely unavailable. So rather than sit passively by while the folks who are new to the music have to shell out big dough on auctions just to get their much-deserved listen, I decided to join the brave ranks of mp3blogs dedicated to digitally transferring and then sharing these tunes. This music is important to me, but not exclusive to me. I hope someone new will be able to discover these as I once did.

The music featured here is predominantly various strains of emotional hardcore punk from the '90s. However, recently I've ripped some surf video soundtracks, mix tapes, and other miscellaneous records.

Click here to check out some photos I've taken over the years.

Or go to my flickr flickr page to see all kinds more.

I'm Ryan. I live in Los Angeles. On this site you'll find comics I've made, plus gifs, ringtones, and other things (many of which are non-tumblr pages).

I have new comics being posted on nerdpuddle.com and tinymixtapes.com.

I want to do more illustration work, so if you like my drawings/humor, contact me at ganatronic@gmail.com. Also, I program! Here's a website portfolio, showing the sites I've worked on.

Anonymous: Hi do you still have the gripping stuff movie on file?

Yeah. Here’s the post with the video: http://tumblr.blueskiesabove.us/post/2863282864/grippingstuff

After you press play, you should see an icon on the sidehand side to download it.

The search feature in tumblr seems janky. I think it only searches tags. So I guess I should tag my stuff better.

We used the Thanksgiving time off to take a trip up to Central California. We stayed on the beach; the weather was perfect, and we had a fun time. I picked up a 6’8” single fin in San Luis Obispo. Here’s me on a couple waves at Cayucos Pier (leashless). My girlfriend shot this from the pier. Small waves, but it was still pretty fun.

I posted up Part 5 of As The Wand Waves over on Nerd Puddle. This one took me a while to complete because of “personal problems.” Click to read the whole thing. It’s action-packed!… as you can see from that frame above.

I’ve had some new comics up on Tiny Mix Tapes. The most recent one is called Armpits of Meth. It’s about how meth affects more than just faces; it also affects things like armpits. Click here to see the whole comic.

Which version of Sisters of Mercy’s Marian do you like the best?

Sounds best on good speakers, with good bass!

And as a bonus, here’s a live version (along with No Time To Cry):

So good!

I got some feedback about the Cracking Open a Can Notification Ringtone that I posted last night. The feedback boiled down to: it lacked the KCHKCHAAAAA that a satisfyingly cracked can can produce. And, somewhat reluctantly, I had to agree. So I had another go at it tonight. I cracked another can of Red Stripe. Then I laid down the audio of the new can on top of last night’s can; did some more editing; and here we are. I still think it lacks some of the sizzle that lingers after the can’s been cracked. But it definitely has more punch to it during the crack. Download it here. What do you think?

Opening a can (soda or beer or whatever) can produce a really satisfying sound. Don’t you agree? So I made a ringtone of that good ol’ ch-cracking sound! Listen to it above. And download it here. Since it is only one second long, it would make a good notification ringtone (like for receiving texts or IMs).

This was made with a pint-size can of Red Stripe, and an Edirol R-09HR recorder. (note: it doesn’t sound too great on my laptop speakers… but it sounds great with headphones on - hopefully it sounds good on my phone.)
